The Senior Metallurgist Mineralogy position is central to maintaining and enhancing the performance of our Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and mineralogical databases, ensuring the laboratory delivers precise and reliable results that support operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities for Senior Metallurgist Mineralogy Jobs in Solwezi Maintain SEM functionality at a minimum 90% availability through routine maintenance, calibration, and timely repairs. Lead initiatives to streamline SEM data workflows by developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) that ensure data consistency, traceability, and efficient archiving.

Develop and calibrate mineralogical databases, aiming for zero unclassified results in Kansanshi stream analyses and perfect alignment with chemistry lab data. Implement and manage data systems to organize and provide accessible mineralogical information.

Support sample preparation teams to achieve high-quality polished surfaces for analysis. Provide training and technical support to mineralogy team members on SEM operation and best practices.

Collaborate on mineralogical projects such as ore characterization and circuit surveys to enhance understanding of Kansanshi mineralogy. Assist plant metallurgists and operations teams by interpreting mineralogical data to diagnose plant performance fluctuations related to recovery and grade.

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and internal procedures to maintain an accident-free working environment. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process, Metallurgical Engineering, or Geology with demonstrable expertise in Mineralogy.

Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia as required by Act No. 27 of 1992.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mineralogical laboratory environment, with strong proficiency in SEM operation. Experience managing data using Microsoft PowerBI, Excel, or similar applications.

Proven ability to communicate effectively with peers, management, technical teams, and suppliers. Demonstrated coaching skills and commitment to knowledge transfer within teams.
